Warning…contents may explode

It seems not one but both of the batteries for my Powerbook G4 are affected by the Apple Recall. Well, that totally sucks. I can’t recharge the thing without being here to watch it.
Kinda takes the portable out of portable computer, eh?

I wonder how long the replacement batteries will take to get here.

Get Well Sawyer

My Nephew is in a Rehab hospital trying to recover from a spinal
“incident.” I say incident because they’re not really sure what has
happened, except that he’s unable to move from the hips down for the
last 2 weeks and a half. He’s a bright, fun 12 year old with a great
attitude, and amazingly high spirits.

There is a chance he will recover mobility, and a chance he won’t.
Positive spirits are what will help him have the best chance. I want
to get him photos of people wishing him well from all over the world.
We’re going to print and put them in his room.

I’ve explained this more on a webpage:
(soon to resolve to

This is not one of those internet rumors, unfortunately. This is my nephew.

I also don’t want it to turn into one of those huge chain mail things,
so please allow this to go only to those friends or blogs that will
help this cause, and direct people to the google page.
This should have a clear ‘expire’ date of August 2006 (and let’s pray
we don’t need photos after that!).

I’ll be answering (and filtering) mail and photos for him at
getwellsawyer at

Thanks in advance for any photos you can send. Good thoughts, prayers,
or whatever you believe in that will help are also appreciated.

Dell Store to open down the street

It seems Dell has been watching the Apple Stores, and is opening its own retail outlets, both in Texas, and in Nyack at my local Palisades Mall. Palisades is supposedly the 2nd largest mall in America, and it does have a Skating Rink, merry-go-round and Ferris Wheel inside.
It also has an Apple Store, so that’s an interesting gauntelet to throw down for Dell. Interestingly, this Apple store is just 8.9 miles from this other Apple Store in Northern NJ (Via Google Maps).
It will be interesting to see what kind of traction Dell gets.

At least I only have to go to one place to get stuff for both my laptops…

Good Customer Service…ongoing

I’ve had accounts with Fidelity for years. I had one set of stocks at SSB (no link) that I wanted to transfer out to save on fees charged. Well, the fine Citi/SSB folks charged me $95 for the privlege of taking my stock out and sending it electronically (which takes almost no time and costs almost zero to both firms), to Fidelity.

Fidelity, like a good customer service group ought to do, sucked up the $95 Citi charge. That is a good deal.  Thanks, Fidelity.

2 Geeks, one a rock and roller

I got the chance to have lunch with one of my favorite podcasters, Michael Butler, aka the Rock and Roll Geek, and his lovely wife, Athina.
Michael was, in person, the same guy he is on the podcast, talking rock, talking geek stuff, and generally being the kind of person you enjoy having a beer with. Thanks for taking the time to meet, Michael, “I really appreciate it!” 🙂 Ahthina – it was great to meet you too!

Here’s a picture after lunch in Times Square:
