You pay HOW MUCH for text messaging?

I always suspected text message pricing was a ripoff. But this scientist proved it.

Space scientist says texting is four times more expensive than receiving scientific data from space

The maximum size for a text message is 160 characters, which takes 140 bytes because there are only 7 bits per character in the text messaging system, and we assume the average price for a text message is 5p. There are 1,048,576 bytes in a megabyte, so that’s 1 million/140 = 7490 text messages to transmit one megabyte. At 5p each, that’s £374.49 per MB – or about 4.4 times more expensive than the ‘most pessimistic’ estimate for Hubble Space Telescope transmission costs.”

Ten Reasons Why Twitter Rocks

Tech Analyst Robin Bloor gave up Twitter with a dismissive comment about a month ago. He’s back, and now he’s a fan.

Ten Reasons Why Twitter Rocks | HaveMacWillBlog (aka Robin Bloor’s Blog)

Since then I have found other reasons why Twitter is not just a good idea, but imho destined to grow much larger than it is now. Here’s a list…

*[my favorite one is:] It is fundamentally social in a way that other social media web sites are not (Like Facebook, MySpace etc.) You can form groups with circles of friends on those web sites but you don’t meet new people. If you want to meet new people on Twitter, just ask a question and someone will chime in with an answer.(You need to have built up a bit of a following for this, but it works.)

Read the entire article for the full list, and hopefully it will explain more about Twitter to my friends and clients who are not yet trying this out.
